Leicester City Shock English Football League by Winning Title
It was perhaps the biggest surprise in English football league history when Leicester City pulled off a stunning title victory this season, upsetting the odds of 5,000-1.
The Foxes had been near the relegation zone for most of the season until a remarkable turnaround saw them win their final 10 games, including a 2-1 victory against Manchester United on Monday that clinched the title.
It was an amazing achievement by Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri, who had been given just £20 million to spend on new players last summer and was widely written off as a has-been.
Leicester's key players included Jamie Vardy, who set a new Premier League record by scoring in 11 consecutive games, and midfield playmaker N'Golo Kanté, who was voted Player of the Season by his peers.
The club's owner is Thai billionaire Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, who has been credited with pumping millions of pounds into Leicester City since he bought the club in 2010.
Leicester City are now the most popular team in England, with their fans dreaming of further success in Europe next season.
English Football League Season Kicks Off with Some Major Changes
The English Football League kicked off yesterday with a few surprises. One of the biggest changes was the relegated teams from last year. Hull City, Middlesbrough, and Sunderland were all relegated from the Premier League and replaced by Newcastle United, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Huddersfield Town. This was not the only surprise, as Manchester United lost their opening match to West Ham United.
There were also some very exciting games yesterday. One of the most notable games was between Aston Villa and Cardiff City. Villa scored first with a goal from John Terry in the 39th minute. Cardiff City managed to score an equalizer in the 89th minute with a goal from Sol Bamba, but then Jack Grealish scored in stoppage time to give Villa the win.
Another exciting game was between Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea. Chelsea took an early lead in the game with a goal from Alvaro Morata in the 11th minute. However, Tottenham equalized in the 38th minute with a goal from Harry Kane. The match went into overtime, but neither team could score and the match ended in a draw.
The English Football League will continue this weekend with more exciting matches.
Manchester United Hope to Win Record 21st English Football League Title
Manchester United manager José Mourinho is optimistic of his team's chances of winning a record-equaling 21st English Football League title this season. The Red Devils are currently second in the table, just two points behind leaders Manchester City, and will be looking to make up the deficit in the remaining games.
Mourinho was quoted as saying: "We are still in the race and we are going to fight for every point, every inch to try and win the title. We believe that we can do it. We have a good squad, I think good enough to do it. There are no guarantees in life but we will give it everything we have."
United's only realistic chance of winning the Premier League this season is if they can overhaul Manchester City's lead in the remaining games. However, they have been in excellent form recently, picking up 10 wins from their last 12 games in all competitions. Their latest win was a 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Anfield, which ended Liverpool's unbeaten run in the Premier League this season.
In contrast, Manchester City have been inconsistent in recent weeks, dropping points against both Crystal Palace and Everton. If United can maintain their current form until the end of the season, they may well be crowned champions.
